RD-Engineering were approached by the client to undertake a structural assessment of existing suspended Reinforced Concrete (R.C) floors and associated structural steelwork to determine if the floors/beam had sufficient structural capacity to withstand the increased loading during the transportation and installation of a new electrical transformer unit.
RD Engineering advised the client on what as-built information we required for the assessment and then confirmed the as-built information on site to ensure there were no discrepancies between the drawings and structures on site.
We then undertook assessments for various load cases confirming that the existing suspended R.C slab had sufficient capacity for the transportation and installation of the unit. We also provided a transportation plan, detailing the proposed route of the transformer ensuring that the operatives did not accidently transport the unit into other areas of the building which had not been assessed. This careful planning ensured the integrity of the structure and the efficient installation of the new equipment.
