Storm Water Overflow Tank Modifications
RD Engineering Associates Ltd were appointed as structural designers to modify two existing Conical Reinforced Concrete (R.C) storage tanks to increase storm water capacity at a Wastewater Treatment Works in the north west of England.
We undertook a structural analysis of the existing R.C storage tanks to confirm if the structural modifications for the new pumping system were feasible.
The project was an urgent priority for the client and required RD to produce the structural design package within a tight timescale.
Upon confirming the modifications could be undertaken without extensive site complications, new water retaining walls and bases were designed and installed to the relevant water retaining concrete design codes to ensure water tightness of the tank structure.
The proposed works required careful planning and execution, as well as collaborative working with the contractor and client.
The project was delivered successfully on time and addressed the immediate issue of reducing storm overflows to the nearby watercourse, protecting our natural environment.
